FICIL 10th anniversary
Foreign Investors Council in Latvia celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2009. In order to mark this occasion, FICIL published a book looking back on 10 years of FICIL activities and presence in the country. It is with great pride that we look back at ten years of change – dramatic change – both for Latvia and the way we work within the Foreign Investors’ Council in Latvia (FICIL).
Against the backdrop of the current global economic problems, it is more difficult to appreciate what FICIL has achieved. Nevertheless, we should not lose the opportunity of this milestone to reappraise how far we have come and what has been achieved. Anniversaries are a time to look back, so that we can continue to look forward and revitalize our overall purpose of improving market conditions and competitiveness.
Our main drive within FICIL continues to be enhancing the overall business climate, creating a level playing field, a competitive and attractive environment for investment and employment. FICIL wants Latvia to be a place where companies thrive and benefit from the growth and development of the country – for a sustainable increase in prosperity and competitiveness.
To achieve development that is sustainable, FICIL sees four key issues that define our future activities:
- Transparency
- Elimination of protectionism for a well functioning market and reduced inflation
- Stability and predictability in the investment climate
- More forceful attraction of foreign direct investment
This anniversary publication examines the most important events and significant investments in Latvia’s economy over the ten years since FICIL was founded. Interviews with key FICIL members reveal their experiences and successes, offering an insight into the organisation’s activities and achievements.
We hope you will find this book both useful and enjoyable reading. Much has been achieved, much remains to be done. FICIL looks forward to continuing our fruitful dialogue with the Latvian government and working together for a sustainable and prosperous future.
