On 23 September 2026, the Foreign Investors’ Council in Latvia (FICIL) held its Members’ Meeting & Networking Lunch, bringing together FICIL corporate and associate members, representatives of embassies, policymakers and other key stakeholders.

The first part of the event focused on sharing key FICIL updates and recent policy developments with the FICIL members. Each FICIL Work Group has provided an overview of developments since the beginning of the year, insights and upcoming activities. This was followed by a high-level discussion on Latvia’s economic development and competitiveness, with the participation of Andris Kulbergs – Prime Minister of Latvia, Māris Kučinskis – Minister of Finance, and Jurģis Miezainis – Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Economics.

Several key messages emerged from the discussion:

1. CLEAR GOALS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR A MORE EFFECTIVE PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION.
A clear direction, measurable KPIs and stronger accountability across public administration were highlighted as essential for delivering results and supporting economic growth. At the same time, greater efficiency requires simpler processes, stronger decision-making and reduced unnecessary administrative burdens. While progress has been made, further improvements are needed to create a more predictable and attractive environment for investment.

2. ECONOMIC GROWTH AND SECURITY NEED TO REMAIN KEY PRIORITIES.
The discussion emphasised the importance of strengthening GDP growth and directing investment and public resources towards areas where they can create the greatest impact. Participants also highlighted the need to make better use of Latvia’s existing resources and economic potential to support long-term growth and resilience.

3. HUMAN CAPITAL CHALLENGES NEED TO BE ADDRESSED AT THEIR CORE.
Sustainable economic growth depends on the availability of people and skills. Participants stressed the importance of strengthening the link between the education system and labour market needs, while creating an environment that attracts, develops and retains highly skilled professionals.

Following the discussion, FICIL Members enjoyed lunch and networking, providing an opportunity for information conversations and the exchange of information. The networking session was also joined by a broader community of policymakers, senior public sector officials, ambassadors and other key stakeholders. Overall, the event brought together more than 180 participants.
