Mobile network operator BITE Latvija has joined the Foreign Investors’ Council in Latvia as a corporate member.

“I am glad for this opportunity for BITE to join an organization, which unites the largest foreign companies in Latvia and connects investors and the government in our common objective to improve the investment and business environment. Active participation in social and economic processes in our country is an important part for the future growth of our company,” says Kaspars Buls, head of BITE Latvija.

“Infrastructure and quality of mobile communications services are among areas where Latvia can successfully compete with the most developed countries of the world. Also, this is an industry, which is on the brink of the next generation of technologies. Of course, they will bring a lot of challenges, including sizeable investments in infrastructure. Therefore, we are glad to accept BITE, one of the leading companies of its industry, within our membership. Knowledge and experience of BITE, especially in areas of communication infrastructure and digital services, will be an important asset for FICIL, strengthening our expertise and ability to offer to Latvia’s government far-sighted and efficient solutions,” adds Mārtiņš Panke, executive director of FICIL.

FICIL is a non-governmental organization, which unites 38 largest foreign-owned companies from different industries, 10 foreign trade chambers, the French Foreign Trade Advisors and Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. FICIL’s mission is to use the experience and knowledge of its members to provide recommendations for public sector to improve Latvia’s business environment and competitiveness in attracting foreign investment.

Since the establishment of FICIL in 1999, a high-level meeting between foreign investors and Latvia’s government takes place each spring to discuss the most important tasks for bettering Latvia’s business environment. This year the High Council meeting took place on May 30-31, where improving access to labour and introducing a new governance model for universities were stressed by FICIL as the most important priorities.
