The High Council meeting 2018 was held on 6-7 June.
The key theme for the 22nd High Council 2018 meeting is “Building Trust”. Trust is an important element for the success of public policies, reforms and contributes to sustainable economic growth. Lack of trust compromises the willingness of people and business to respond to public policies and thus can also limit economic development of the country. Respect for the rule of law, sound use of public funds, enforcing law and engaging with citizens are all important contributors towards building trust.
The sub-themes will cover specific issues where FICIL sees the need for improving business environment and will include topics relating to labour availability and quality, digital performance and competitiveness, rule of law and economic crimes, energy and waste management, transport and logistics.
The High Council is a two-day event. It starts with an internal meeting among FICIL members. The afternoon is dedicated to a public panel discussion that on 2018 focuses on Latvia’s digital performance and competitiveness and the rule of law and transparency. The discussion is followed by a reception in the evening. The second day (first half of the day) is dedicated to the meeting with the Prime Minister and the Cabinet of Ministers.
